British Impressionism

It could be said that the first Impressionist was JMW Turner with his 'Rain,Steam and Speed' back in 1844. However Britain's Impressionist movement really took off with the arrival of the American James Mcneill Whistler in the early 1860s, leading to artists such as Sickert, Scott, Steer and Roussel. The movement was futher established with the formation of the New English Art Club in 1886, many of the New English are represented on Fineartsurrey, Sherree Valentine Daines being the foremost Impressionist.
